Precious in His eyes

Precious in His eyes

You matter.

You belong.

You are valuable.

You are loved.

You are wanted.

How often do we want to hear those words? How often do we crave even the smallest encouragement that tells us we matter? I think everyone at some point can relate to that in some way, that wanting to be seen and wanted, that reassurance that our existence is not by accident. Teenagers especially.

I work with teenage girls every single day and can see the yearning to be seen, wanted, or even included by someone, something. It effects how they conduct themselves, how they dress, how they speak, the smiles on their faces and the lights in their eyes.

This past week, at one of the girls’ homes, we were teaching about obstacles in our lives. The circumstances, the people, and even ourselves. We shared different obstacles in our own personal lives, and the girls just opened up, telling us what they were struggling with, the influences they have to battle daily, the negative things that are said or thought by someone, the lies the devil tells them.

It was so interesting (and of course, a God thing) because Lesbi and I had just talked about how one of our goals is to convey to each girl, whether by word or action, is that SHE HAS VALUE, SHE IS WORTH IT. SHE IS LOVED. So when that conversation came up, we jumped at the chance to pour this truth on their hearts through our words.

You matter, you belong, you are valuable, you are wanted, you are loved.

We read Psalm 139 together:

“I praise you, for I am FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows them well.”

You have value, why? Because you are a daughter of the King, a princess, beloved and wanted.

We have value for the sole reason that God created us, through grace for His purpose. Our identity lies in Him. We are His. Isaiah 43: 1, 4 says,

“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine…Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you, peoples in exchange for your life.”

It is a beautiful thing when we realize that the yearning to be wanted comes from God himself, to be filled with and by Him. We are seen; even if no one else does, He sees us. We are wanted; even if it feels like no one else does, He wants us. We are loved; even when we don’t feel loved, He loves us.

I want each one of my girls to know they are loved and wanted by our precious Savior, and for that reason they matter, they are important.  At the end of each day, that is my goal. If I have conveyed that even in a small way, I have done what I needed to do. It is so key to communicate this because someone cannot begin to live in the freedom of that truth, nor reciprocate the same love of Jesus to others if they first do not understand themselves. It is the foundation of understanding our identity as disciples of Jesus, of living living that out and of going and making more disciples.

So, remember you are valuable, you are wanted, you are loved by our Father, the King; and go and remind someone else of those same truths.
