Ready Set……Wait

Ready Set……Wait

Sometimes God says wait. Wait for My timing and just trust.

This past week I have been getting settled into San Pedro Sula, finding my way around the city and….waiting.

When I finished language school, I was so excited to get to San Pedro and actually get started doing what we had planned to do. This seemed to me like I had been waiting forever for this time. After 2 years of asking God to work out a way for me to go to Honduras, 1 year of planning to come to Honduras, then 9 long, but good, months of training, you could maybe guess I, along with the rest of the El Camino team, were more than ready to get going.

So when I moved to San Pedro, I had the expectation of getting involved right away. I met with the young woman who will be working with us, and after talking and brainstorming, we both came to the conclusion that it would be best to get to know the girls first instead of walk into it with an agenda. However, that required us to wait. We needed to get contact information for the different children’s home and then work out times to visit.

I knew it wouldn’t be easy but I also didn’t think it would require as many steps.  Like I said, I had expectations of beginning right away, meeting girls and hanging out with them, getting to know them. Still, God was making us wait. And for the past week I have been waiting. Yes, I have been settling in, getting used to driving here and emailing people who know people who have contact information, but going to children’s homes & meeting adolescent girls, no.

For the first few days, this drove me crazy.

I was finally here, ready. Ready to meet girls. Read to love them. Ready to be part of their lives. Ready to use my Spanish.

Still, God said wait.

But along with that wait came the gentle reminder and reassurance to trust Him, His plan and His timing. He has always come through and has always made a way.

“For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end – it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”  –Habakkuk 2:3

While I may just be making phone calls to directors, He is working behind the scenes to open or close doors. While I may be “just” praying for direction, He is already making the way. And while I may not be out working in children’s homes, He most certainly is and has been long before this time. All in His perfect timing.

God is faithful!

God Bless, Jami!
