Our Story
Sparrow Missions was born from a simple yet powerful truth: not one is forgotten by God.
When Justin and Ashley Ross first encountered the brokenness in San Pedro Sula on a short-term mission trip in 2009, they returned home with a burden to do more. What started in a marginalized Honduran community where children faced daily struggles with poverty, violence, and despair, grew into a vision to raise up local leaders and disciple the next generation.
2009
Building the base of the ministry
God placed a vision on the hearts of the Ross family and led them to move to San Pedro Sula. They began serving in Rancho Bonito, a riverside community scarred by poverty and violence. Through children’s programs, shared meals, and intentional mentorship, the family started planting seeds of hope, reminding kids and families that their lives matter, they are deeply loved, and they are known by God.
2015
SPARROW ACADEMY LAUNCHES
After serving the Rancho Bonito community and walking alongside women through discipleship, one need became clear: the education of their children. We started with kids classes and sponsorships to help them attend public school, but the need was greater. In 2015, God led us to open Sparrow Academy where the children of Rancho Bonito would be discipled, educated, and equipped to step boldly into their God-given purpose. The Academy began in a small house and has since moved to a beautiful 3 acre property equipped with classrooms, a clinic, a playground, a soccer field, a library, and more!

2019
SUBLIME GRACIA
CHURCH IS PLANTED
Our team got connected with a mountain community just outside San Pedro Sula as God opened the door for children’s outreach. As we built relationships, God revealed a greater vision: planting Sublime Gracia Church. This new church became a light for the community that proclaims Christ’s truth, welcomes the broken, and nurtures a community rooted in grace and love. In a community once marked by legalism and rejection, Sublime Gracia is sharing the message of grace and mercy through faith in Christ.

SPARROW EXPANDS
TO THAILAND
After years of serving, equipping leaders, and establishing a strong foundation in Honduras, God gave the Ross Family a new call to obedience. He led them to one of the most unreached places in the world: Thailand. God opened the door for Sparrow’s ministry to reach new communities with the hope of the Gospel. By partnering with a local pastor and his family, Sparrow is planting a church in a remote Thai Village, ministering to local youth through soccer, and teaching English classes, music, and the Word of God.

KAINOS CHURCH IS PLANTED
Our team began to see a great need for a Christ-centered church in the Rancho Bonito Community. In 2021, Kainos Church was established as a place where leaders and families can grow in their knowledge and love of God. In a community long shaped by legalism, Kainos provides a welcoming space dedicated to sharing the true and gracious gospel while equipping and sending out the body of Christ.
2022
SPARROW EXPANDS TO PERU
In 2022, the Thompson family joined Sparrow Missions as missionaries in Lima, Peru. John and Abi responded to God’s call to re-establish and revitalize a church in a diverse, multicultural setting. Union Church has grown rapidly and the leaders are creating a place to equip and send out faithful servants to impact the world.
2025
SPARROW EXPANDS TO RESTRICTED AREAS
In 2025, Sparrow Founder, Justin Ross, was connected with a group of pastors in a Southeast Asian Country where the gospel is restricted and harshly governed. Through this connection, our team has had the opportunity to equip local pastors to know and love the Word of God and to shepherd their people faithfully.

THE GLOBAL LEADER FUND IS ESTABLISHED
Sparrow’s history is full of missionaries raising up local leaders to serve and minister in their own communities. We have seen this happen in Honduras and are watching the impact that local leaders have on their communities in Thailand, Peru, and restricted access areas. In 2025, Sparrow Missions established the Global Leader Fund to build a sustainable financial base to support these leaders. Through this program, the hope is that Sparrow's reach and gospel-impact would continue to expand.

SPARROW EXPANDS TO PERU
In 2022, the Thompson family joined Sparrow Missions,
responding to God’s call to reestablish and revitalize a
church in the heart of Lima, Peru. In a diverse,
multicultural setting, they are creating a place to equip
and send leaders to impact the world.
Today, we exist to bring the hope of the Gospel to the unreached and forgotten by equipping and mobilizing disciples to make Christ known.

From inner-city San Pedro Sula to the villages of Northern Thailand to the streets of Lima, Peru and into unreached areas, Sparrow Missions exists for one purpose:
to raise up local leaders who plant Gospel-centered churches and break the cycles of poverty through education, transforming lives and communities with the love and truth of Jesus Christ.
