He Establishes

He Establishes

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps” Proverbs 16:9

Being new to the Sparrow family, I had a lot to learn. What all does Sparrow really do? What is the Bordos? Why does everyone love Wendy? What is a Baleada?

The process of joining the Sparrow family was a whirlwind of events that led me to an experience that I, along with anyone else who has interacted with Sparrow Missions, will carry with me for the rest of my life.  Being a college student, spinning around in different directions, doing different things and preparing for the world of adulthood, there are times when I get nervous. Sometimes I worry about making the right decisions or doing the right things, being the person I want to be and it gets EXHAUSTING. As human beings we only have so much energy to use before we are worn out and sometimes break down, but that isn’t the life Christ called us to live. Although He called us to “take up our cross and follow Him”, the beauty about the love Jesus has for us is that He also said to “Cast your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you.” (Psalm 55:22)

oyin There are times when we feel as if we are wandering through life, lost and alone. We make plans that fall through or we make promises that we cannot fulfill. Sometimes we promise we will never do something and end up doing the very thing we swore we would never do, but at these moments when we feel frustrated or incapable, it is crucial to remember that in our hearts we plan our course, but the Lord establishes our steps. (Proverbs 16:9) Making plans is great, but not without the understanding that we are not in control, but it is the Lord that allows (or sometimes doesn’t allow) our plans to come to pass and if we truly believe in God’s promises to “prosper us and not harm us and give us a hope and a future” then it is His will that we surrender to even if it means a future of eternal life in with Christ or spiritual prosperity which is more than we could ever hope for.

If there is one thing I have learned throughout my recent adventures with Christ, is that we are most definitely not in control and I fully believe that there is freedom in that.  Where we fall short, Christ shows up in unimaginable ways. Through our shortcomings, weaknesses, and limitations, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is glorified.

Trusting in ourselves is draining, but having faith in Christ is where we are able to find peace because He is the establisher.
